Due to savings in environmental impacts and costs, a transition to LED streetlights is happening in major cities across the world, and LA has just retrofitted over 140,000 of its own street lights. “If we want to change the film industry then, ironically, one of the fastest and most all-encompassing ways to do so is to change how our cities are lit”. The switch has cinematic effects for Hollywood too, as it’s “nocturnal landscape has changed forever”. “LEDs should very well prove a benefit to existing-light photography…and in nearly every case, better for cinematography.” LED’s mean LA is also saving $7 million in electricity, which usually accounts for up to 40% of a city’s electricity bill.
