Berlinale Film Festival Feb. 6 – Feb. 16
Feb 5, 2014 | Uncategorized
The Berlinale Film Festival promotes ecological and sustainable goals through programmes and panels, such as a ‘Meet the Expert’ session with Michael Geidel (Green Film Initiative), and an annual Culinary Cinema program which screens about twelve films dealing with food and the environment. The festival has been actively engaged in reducing its own carbon footprint since 2011. Ongoing partnerships with Entega ( provider of climate friendly clean energy) and the Öko-Institut e.V. (Institute for Applied Ecology), have optimized the carbon footprint of the festival, while it’s year-round operations are measured and compensated too. Longtime director of the Berlinale, Dieter Kosslick, is also convinced that film subsidy systems should be modified in favour of sustainability.

German film asks: ‘Engineering the Climate?’
Jan 30, 2014 | Uncategorized
‘Danke!’ to our German friends at the Climate Media Factory who provide climate-science responsive action through the creation of media that reaches wide audiences. In their latest short film, they tackle ideas on ‘Engineering
the Climate’: “ocean fertilization to remove CO2 from the air, building artificial trees, and injecting sulphur into the atmosphere to act as a sunshade for the earth”. However, simple solutions often have complicated impacts, and this film is their reality check. Watch their funny and engaging short video, become educated, and share this important food for thought with others too. Ah, the power of film, gut gemacht! Watch it here:
’MINUSCULE’ PREMIERE- a green production, with green content too!
Jan 30, 2014 | Uncategorized
In this unique hybrid film, French film makers have mixed animated figures with real landscape footage: meaning all sets are natural! The film bares the eco-conscious ACT label ( with support from ECOPROD and PRIMI) of the PACA region, which provided financial support to the film in it’s attempt to limit its environmental impact, while planning production in a more energy efficient way ( reducing the number of trucks and cars on the site, having local produce to eat, diligent recycling and compost efforts, local accommodation, etc). Crew even tried to rent electric cars where possible! It premieres in France today (Jan.29) but, we can’t wait till it hits The Netherlands on Feb.26th, green and gorgeous! Watch the trailer here:
A Sustainable Sundance Film Festival
Jan 23, 2014 | Uncategorized
The Sundance Film Festival is well under-way in naturally beautiful Park City Utah, and we are totally impressed by the sustainability efforts which the festival is both initiating and encouraging among its events. To discourage individual automobile use, the festival is offering a free shuttle bus between festival venues, while highlighting easy and enjoyable pedestrian pathways too! There are more recycling bins this year at the festival’s “theatres, venues, and throughout Park City” than ever before, and Sundance is issuing free reusable Nalgene bottles which can be filled up at “Brita filtered water hydration stations throughout the Festival” in order to do away with plastic bottles. Setting the sustainability bar reaaaal high Sundance- nice! Which film festival will be next to set it even higher?
