The workshops 2013
have been over, and today the participants of the Green Film Making Competition 2013 handed in their sustainability plans. We are looking forward to a new round of the competition, and the sustainable pioneers that will come out of it. Together with our partners – The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Stichting DOEN, ASN Bank, NTR and The Netherlands Film Fund – we are currently working on our plans for the near future.

The Green Film Making Competition – 2013
Apr 13, 2013 | Uncategorized
We’re proud to announce that next year the Green Film Making Competition will be embedded into the country’s biggest short film competition “NTR Kort!”. Kort! gives a mix of young and established screenwriters and filmmakers the chance to make short fiction films. The NTR, The Netherlands Film Fund, the Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Fund and CoBO finance and help the filmmakers make their productions a reality. KORT! is the Dutch Film Industry’s talent development program, so this truly means a big next step in making the industry greener.
And The Winner Is…
Apr 12, 2013 | Uncategorized
The title of Green Film Maker of the Year 2012 went to Trent from NFI Productions who together with Anielle Webster produced the film ‘LEVEN’.
On June 1st 2012 the Evening of the Green Film took place at EYE in Amsterdam. Many a director, producer, actor and actress made their debut to witness the first finale of the Green Filmmaking Competition. Six finalists were part of the
challenging battle to make a good movie, produced in the most sustainable way possible.
The first prize consists of the honorary div ´Green Film MakerRobes de mariée Empire
of the Year` and the great sum of 20,000 euros provided by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. The jury of the Green Filmmaking Competition found in LEVEN (Dutch for; Life) a Trompette & robes de mariée Mermaid rich and full film that deeply touches in variety of ways.
The winning team showed that they came to fully embrace sustainability. The jury is confident that NFI Productions will apply their Green Film Making Competition acquired knowledge about sustainable alternatives to subsequent productions. The jury commented, “We witnessed concrete steps in terms of the sustainability of production processes. After an initial ‘progress meeting’ some of us thought that maybe it would remain with the proverbial bicycle and organic sandwich. But now it has become clear that the competition has brought forth pioneers who have put clear and concrete steps, and seem determined to continue with this. “
Product Placement
Apr 11, 2013 | Art Department
Wow, what a brilliant idea! ‘Green Product Placement‘ is the first company to commit solely on getting sustainable, local and charitable brands and products onto the silver screen. The section ‘Sustainable goods go Hollywood‘ explains that harnessing product placement’s subliminal pull makes for an uncomfortable business model, so the owners of this company are committed to getting other products
(literally) in the picture that are better for the
environment. By introducing it to the Hollywood screen, new products like organic vodka or gluten-free cookies will get into the mainstream.
How To Go Green in The Office
Apr 10, 2013 | Production
Most filmproducers choose this very proffession to avoid the rut of working in a cubicle, but let’s face it: some of the very best innovations come from an office environment.
Here’s some tips to green your ‘office’:
- Choose your method of transportation carefully. Assess how much distance there is between specific places to shoot. Is it necesarry to shoot on so many different locations and if so, how can you reduce your energy?
- Pick the best times in a day to limit the amount of energy you use for lighting. Shooting during a bright sunny day is often the way to go.
- If you’re using a portable energy source, try to commit to a green energy supplier. Green Choice provides great energy solutions.
- Do it paperless: send your invoices digital and use tablets or ereaders (even less energy use) for your scripts.
- Pick a caterer that works with local, in season and organic food. Reduce food consumption (for catering tips, see earlier posts).
- Host your website at a sustainable hosting provider, like Greenhost! They focus on reducing waste and efficient use of IT.
- Build your sustainable filmset with FSC (forest steward councelship, a.k.a. sourced from sustained forests) wood. Better yet, recycle as much as you can. Get all your DIY building supplies at: Ecologisch.
- Replace your lighting wih LED bulbs.
- Someone else did it before you, and probably did it better too.Huge companies have collected their insights on: energiechannel.
The Thing
Apr 9, 2013 | Uncategorized
You’ve probably all heard of the remake of ‘The thing’, after the original film by John Carpenter, which was recently released in theatres. With a sci-fi flick like this, nothing is unimaginable! By means of the green production guide, the shooting crew of this film drastically reduced their carbon footprint. The universal pictures site mentions that while shooting in Toronto The Thing used reusable water bottles in place of plastic. On stage, in addition to recycling, the crew separated their food waste, increasing the waste diversion of the film.
