Siebe Dumon (Flanders/Belgium)

Film production within Flanders, in the northern part of Belgium, is taking on sustainability in a major way. And for this, we have Siebe Dumon to thank. Siebe got her start in the industry, as a producer in TV production. She is someone who knows what it means to deliver quality content with tight deadlines. And, she knows how to do all of this on a strict budget. In her current role at the regionally based Flanders Audio-Visual Fund (VAF), Siebe has been able to draw on this production experience, for her most recent and influential pursuit: to green the industry. The fruits of her labor? E-Mission; a regional film fund initiative that rewards greener thinking productions with… financing. If it sounds cutting edge, that’s because it is.

Short Film Series: Nature is Speaking… are you listening?

An inspiring new film series by Conservation International has given Nature a voice. And, it sounds like an impressive group of a-list actors: Julia Roberts is Mother Nature, Kevin Spacey is the Rainforest, Edward Norton is the Soil, Harrison Ford is the Ocean, Penelope Cruise is the Water, and Robert Redford is the Redwood. Wow, green filmmakers are a go! This latest awareness campaign has anchored the communicative power of film, as well as the familiarity & mass appeal of the recruited top-of-the-line actors, to effectively raise awareness on environmental issues. So, what would nature say if it could speak to us? These short films have the answers, and the popular voices behind Nature’s personification makes them undeniably easy to listen to.

The Green Film Making Project does Green Screen Day (again!) Nov.27th @ IDFA 2014

On Nov.27th the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, will once again host ‘Green Screen Day’ in conjunction with the Green Film Making Project. On ‘Green Screen Day‘, there will be special presentations for three documentaries from the festival’s 2014 ‘Green Screen’ program, as selected and hosted by our team. These screenings, at the Brakke Grond in Amsterdam,will include introductions as well as talk-backs by philosophers, specialists and scientists, and will take place between 2:15pm and 9:45 pm. Our guest speakers will focus on the most engaging and evocative environmental themes associated with the films, and will offer their first-hand experience as well as in-depth knowledge to the discussions. The Green Film Making Project, an initiative of Strawberry Earth, is made possible by way of partnerships with many pre-existing, established entities. One of the most reputable is The Netherlands Film Fund. Online ‘How to Green you Film Production (so far)’ Guide – Now in updated reprint!

Back in the summer of 2013, the Green Film Making Project developed and published the first sustainable production guide for the Dutch film industry: How to Green Your Film Production (so far). Created in collaboration with professional working filmmakers, and participants of the Green Film Making Project, the guide was developed to assist filmmakers and other audiovisual professionals who wanted to be more sustainable with the production of their films, commercials, and music videos. At this point (and almost one year after the original publication!) the guide has been published in a new, improved, updated and reprinted version. read more…
